Commission work is accepted for Copper Trees and Driftwood Lamps. This is a great way to commemorate a special place by having an original piece of art made from wood form a location that you would like to remember like a cabin, hunting area, lake house, beach, vacation place or home site. It also makes a great, personalized gift for someone.

There are certain characteristics of the wood that make it suitable for lamps or copper trees:

General Wood Characteristics

- The piece should be solid. This does not necessarily mean heavy. It just should be free of rot or loose pieces and should not break or crumble when handled.

- The piece should be free of live insects. If it is infested, they usually can be removed by completely submerging it under water for a few hours.

- It should not be too large or too small. See size recommendations below.

- I do not usually work with wood that has to be or has been cut as I prefer the natural shape of the wood.

Lamps

Wood for lamps can be difficult to find due to certain characteristics that the piece must have to work well for a lamp.

-There should be a cavity or curvature somewhere in the wood that will allow for the shade to be created around it and to accommodate the light socket and bulb.

-The wood should sit naturally in a position that allows for the shade area to be viewed and appear balanced with the wood.

- Size recommendations -  8" in length or larger.  Smaller pieces will usually not accommodate the electrical fixtures. The best sizes are around 12"-25" long.

Copper Trees

It is typically easier to find wood for trees as the requirements are less stringent.

-The wood needs to be able to sit firmly on a flat surface and should not easily roll.

-Suitable sizes usually range from 2" to 25" for trees that you would display on a piece of furniture such as a desk. Larger trees that would sit on the floor require heavy, larger pieces of wood that are very stable. Minor modifications can be done to stabilize these pieces if needed.

Requirements

-Pictures of several views of the wood should be sent to me via email or regular mail and  must be approved by me for the specific type of work that you would like before the wood is shipped.

-As pictures are only two dimensional, approval given based on pictures does not guarantee that the wood can be used for the specific project that you requested.

-An estimate of the price will be given based on the pictures and your specific request.

-Lamp commissions start at $300 and Tree commissions start at $150.

-Once approval is given, the cleaned, dried wood can be shipped or delivered along with a deposit of 50% of the estimate. I will then contact you about the overall design and the exact price of the piece before work is begun.

-Although it may be possible to get it done sooner, please allow 30 days for the project to be completed.

-The piece can then be shipped back to you or arrangements can be made to pick it up. I would love to meet you!
